FILMMAKER + PHOTOGRAPHER
I am a filmmaker, cinematographer and photographer based in Middlebury, Vermont, specializing in the people, places and stories of New England.
I work across documentary, editorial and brand storytelling, creating films and photographs that feel grounded in the people and places they represent. I can take a project from the first conversation through final delivery, or join an existing production as a director, cinematographer, photographer or editor.
Productions scale to the story. Sometimes the right approach is just me and a camera, keeping the footprint small and allowing access and intimacy. Other projects call for a larger crew, which I can build and direct around the needs of the production. Either way, I value efficiency, flexibility and knowing when to get out of the way.
WORKING WITH PEOPLE
I’ve worked with experienced on-air talent, sponsored athletes, CEOs and public figures, as well as people who have never been photographed or filmed before. I’ve filmed people sharing deeply personal experiences around illness, loss and other vulnerable moments, and have learned that every person requires something different from me and from the camera.
I find common ground with people easily. My job is to create the conditions for an honest exchange, whether that means spending hours with someone until the camera begins to disappear or finding that moment within a tightly scheduled production day.
FROM FIRST CONVERSATION TO FINAL CUT
My background as both a filmmaker and editor allows me to think about the finished story throughout production. I shoot toward an edit, listening not only for a good interview but for the threads that will eventually hold a film together.
For start-to-finish productions, I can develop concepts, produce, direct, shoot and conduct interviews, then carry the project through post-production. That process can include working from transcripts to build a paper edit, writing narration, picture editing, sourcing archival imagery, music selection and sound design, color, and final deliverables.
I also work independently as a cinematographer, photographer and editor when a project already has a creative team in place.
Photography includes documentary and editorial assignments, ad campaigns, environmental portraiture, and brand photography, from individual portraits to larger image libraries built around a company, organization or community. I can deliver still and motion content that shares a distinct visual signature.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I find my work in the balance of ritual and ridiculous, in landscapes and communities shaped by use, weather, time and change. Impermanence runs through much of what I photograph. Buildings disappear. Landscapes change. People pass through rooms and leave traces behind. But increasingly I find myself interested in what we do in response. We stack the wood. Make the bed. Straighten the chairs. Tend the field. Return with the print.
These small acts of care acknowledge that nothing lasts while insisting that it matters anyway. Tending becomes a way of inhabiting a place, caring for one another, and honoring what we love.
Looking closely, I find less distance between the sacred and the absurd, between loss and affection.
Nothing lasts. We tend to it anyway.
